The people over at Orbitvu have just released another update for their incredible software solutions, the AlphaShot Editor and Orbitvu Editor. You can now do a batch export of your projects and so spend more time shooting before leaving your computer to produce all of the presentations you have created. The AlphaShot Editor now also allows the use of images as a background to the automatically cut-out items you have shot in the booth. Finally, they have continued to add support for the newer Nikon and Canon DSLRs.

So here we are getting together the stuff from the printers, all the kit, and bits and bobs for our still-life set-ups but of course there's still the business to run.

We're excited by the prospect of not only having our OrbitVU expert coming over from Poland to join us and answer all of your questions about the way ahead for product photography on the web, but also the chance to show off the beautifully engineered film grips solutions from Shootools that we now stock.

We will be on the Linhof Studio stand (Q14 Hall 10) where Andrew will be available to answer your questions and provide guidance through his expertise gained over the past 19 years. Giles, the "new boy", will also be around from Monday to help with the cross-over to HDSLR movie making and given his degree in cinematography, a number of years working as a lighting cameraman, and then as a photographer, it hopefully won't be too ill-educated??

Large umbrellas are useful Light Shaping Tools for portrait-, people- and fashion photography. They create a smooth but yet distinctive light, which allows the user to illuminate an entire person or even small groups with just a single light source.

Profoto’s new Umbrella XL has a diameter of 165 cm. It is available in white, silver and translucent versions, and it fits onto all Profoto flash heads and monolights. It can also be mounted onto Profoto’s Cine Reflector, and can thereby be used with the company’s new line of continuous light sources – ProDaylight 800 Air and ProTungsten Air.

The Umbrella XL has a slightly parabolic shape, allowing the light distribution to be changed by simply sliding the shaft inside the flash head. In addition, the light spread can be adjusted by moving the Zoom Reflector back and forth.

An optional front diffuser is available, which practically converts Umbrella XL white and the Umbrella XL silver into a fully functioning Octabox. (The front diffuser can not to be used with continuous light sources.) An optional stand adapter is also available, which allows the photographer to mount the umbrella onto a light stand, or use it with former Profoto heads or even with products form other brands.
